At Mother Brunner, education isn't confined to textbooks and lectures. In our 7th-grade math class, students immerse themselves in the world of statistics through a unique and interactive method: catapulting gummy bears across the classroom carpet.
The concept is simple yet ingenious. Armed with gummy bear "ammunition" and their mathematical skills, students take turns launching these sugary projectiles using makeshift catapults. But this isn't just a game – it's a learning experience that brings abstract mathematical concepts to life.
With each launch, students carefully measure the distance traveled by the gummy bears. They then use this data to calculate various statistical measures, including the mean, mode, median, and range. For example, they determine the mean distance by adding up all the distances and dividing by the number of launches. They identify the mode as the distance that occurs most frequently, the median as the middle value when the distances are arranged in ascending order, and the range as the difference between the maximum and minimum distances.
Ultimately, it's not just about catapulting gummy bears – it's about instilling a love for learning and a curiosity for exploring the world through mathematics. And at Mother Brunner, that's exactly what education is all about.

As we bid farewell to another week of learning and growth, let’s carry the spirit of camaraderie and safety into the weekend and beyond. Congratulations to all the classes that completed their Internet safety training—enjoy the show!

At our most recent teacher in-service, staff member Aneesa Bhimani-Trimble led a presentation focusing on mental health in the classroom. Our school community came together in solemn reflection as we observed Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent. Students participated in a special service where they received ashes as a symbol of repentance and renewal. It was a poignant reminder for all of us to reflect on our faith, make positive changes, and prepare our hearts for Easter.
Alongside our spiritual observance, we celebrated the joy of love and friendship on Valentine's Day! Our classrooms were excited as students exchanged heartfelt cards, shared kind gestures, and participated in fun activities centered around love and compassion. Seeing the warmth and affection shared among classmates and teachers was wonderful.
Balancing the solemnity of Ash Wednesday with the joy of Valentine's Day provided our students with a rich learning experience. They learned the importance of honoring spiritual traditions and secular celebrations, fostering a deeper understanding of empathy, love, and community.

Embrace the Meaning of Ash Wednesday!
Today, we commemorated the solemn occasion of Ash Wednesday, a day of reflection and renewal in the Christian faith. Deacon Dale distributed ashes at Mass and in our Pre-K homeroom.
Our students are guided to understand the significance of Ash Wednesday - a special day when people mark their foreheads with ashes in the shape of a cross, echoing the love and compassion of Jesus.
Let us come together in prayer and contemplation, embracing the spirit of humility and compassion this Ash Wednesday. Stay tuned for updates on our upcoming services and events.

We enjoyed immersing ourselves in empowering stories that carry essential messages of self-acceptance, self-esteem, and limitless possibilities for our young learners' futures.
The books selected for our reading session were carefully curated to instill in our students the importance of embracing their uniqueness, fostering a positive self-image, and believing in their ability to achieve anything they set their minds to. 💫 Through engaging narratives and vibrant illustrations, our little ones were captivated as they journeyed through tales that resonated deeply with themes of empowerment and self-discovery.
We believe in nurturing not only academic excellence but also the emotional and social well-being of our students. Today's experience was a wonderful opportunity to reinforce values of confidence, resilience, and kindness, laying a strong foundation for their future growth and development.
Thank you to the Dayton Metro Library for partnering with us in this enriching endeavor and to our dedicated educators for their commitment to providing our students with meaningful learning experiences. Together, we're empowering the next generation to dream big, embrace their potential, and positively impact the world.
